Computational Finance stream

Computational Finance stream offers an interdisciplinary education in business, including training in mathematics, statistics, computer programming, and finance. It prepares students to establish competitive advantages in careers in the financial industry that require high-caliber quantitative and analytical skills.

Quantitative Trading/Quantitative Research
Quantitative Trading/Quantitative Research involves creating and implementing mathematical models to identify profitable trading opportunities in financial markets. In this role, you would use these models to predict price movements, identify arbitrage opportunities, and execute trades using sophisticated algorithms. This role requires a strong understanding of financial markets, proficiency in programming languages like Python or R, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Asset Management
As an asset manager, you would be in charge of managing clients' portfolios, and offering investment advice. Your tasks might include portfolio allocation, estate and retirement planning, and asset distribution. You might work with equities, bonds, and commodities, including precious metals like gold and silver. Asset managers also manage hedge funds and pension plans, and create pooled structures such as mutual funds, index funds, or exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Investment Banking
As an investment banker, you would work with companies to raise capital or acquire companies through mergers and acquisitions. You may provide services such as underwriting, help in the sale and purchase of securities, and broker trades.

Risk Management
This could involve roles such as risk analyst, risk manager, or risk consultant. You would be responsible for developing and implementing risk management strategies, analyzing financial data to identify potential risks, and providing consultancy services on risk management.

 

Financial Technology stream

 

Financial Technology stream prepares students for careers in the emerging FinTech industry and business and technology sectors that require solid technology training and finance domain knowledge.

Blockchain
Blockchain technology is an emerging field in the finance industry. As a student of the BSc in Computational Finance and Financial Technology (CFFT) at City University of Hong Kong, you could explore opportunities in the blockchain sector. This could involve roles such as blockchain developer, blockchain analyst, or blockchain consultant. You would be responsible for developing and maintaining blockchain systems, analyzing data on the blockchain, and providing consultancy services on blockchain technologies.

Financial Technology (FinTech)
Financial Technology (FinTech) is a rapidly growing field. As a student in the Financial Technology stream, you would be equipped with solid technology training and finance domain knowledge. You could explore roles in the FinTech industry such as financial analyst, financial software developer, or financial data analyst. These roles involve using technology to provide financial services, analyze financial data, and develop financial software.

Regulatory Technology (RegTech)
Regulatory Technology (RegTech) is another emerging field in the finance industry. This could involve roles such as regulatory compliance analyst, regulatory technology consultant, or regulatory technology developer. You would be responsible for using technology to help financial institutions comply with regulatory requirements, develop regulatory software, and provide consultancy services on regulatory technologies.
